THE IOM SUPERBIKE RACES 2005

So it's up to Liverpool again...I love Liverpool, such an easy stepping off point for the Island.

I meet up with everyone again under the shadow of the Lyver building and seeing the queue tells me that I'm on my way. I am fairly up to the front of the queue and I feel slightly out of place sitting in a white car in the middle of rows of motorcycles.

I go for my tickets ( I booked by e-mail) and once they are in my hand, I can sit in the car with the radio tuned to Radio TT and hear what's happening.

On board, I leave the car and make my way up to the rear of the vessel and find a seat. We set off down the Mersey and out to sea, accelerating which makes us decide to go into the bar area out of the wind.

I don't like sitting so I wander round talking to people who are on their way to the TT..
It's a good feeling and one can relax.

The journey is over so quickly these days ( I can remember being on the 'high' seas for up to six hours in the olden days when they used the older packet boats) It is so much easier to traverse the 80-odd miles of the Irish Sea.

It is a special year for the Steam Packet which celebrates 175 years as the oldest continuously operating passenger shipping company in the world.

We dock just short of noon and we make our way into Douglas, some to do a quick lap, other go to find their 'homes' for the period.
