Stanley Woods arrived at the TT with a brace of Moto Guzzis to contest the 250cc and 500cc TTs. This heralded the beginning of the foreign invasion for he won both classes, leading the 250cc race from start to finish. In the Senior race, the Norton team thought Stanley would have to stop to top up fuel before commencing the final lap and told the leader at that time Jimmie Guthrie to take it easy. To Nortons absolute dismay, Stanley went through non-stop and secured the Double and fastest TT lap ever at 86 mph.
